MRIC Call for Proposals 2025 under (1) Innovation Boost Grant &
(2) Collaborative Research and Innovation Grant Scheme
The Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC), operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research launched a Call for Proposals under (1) Innovation Boost Grant and (2) Collaborative Research and Innovation Grant Scheme on Wednesday, 19th February 2025. The deadline for the submission of applications was Friday, 28th March 2025 by 15hrs.
Schemes
Under this Call for Proposals, two schemes were advertised: the Innovation Boost Grant (IBG) and the Collaborative Research and Innovation Grant Scheme (CRIGS). Under the two schemes, applicants were able to apply for a grant under specific thematic areas which had been identified in Les Assises de la Recherche et de l’Innovation 2.0.
The ‘Innovation Boost Grant’ is aimed at supporting short-term innovative projects in specific thematic areas. The ultimate objective of any proposed project should be the development or improvement of products, processes or techniques that will benefit the economy or provide potential solutions to the identified national challenges.
Under the Collaborative Research and Innovation Grant Scheme (CRIGS), a local company in partnership with a local Academic/Research/Tertiary Education Institutions can submit applications for innovative, collaborative research and development projects with commercial potential. This scheme aims to improve the competitiveness of Mauritius through collaboration between Research and Industry.
Awareness Sessions
Two awareness sessions were organised online on Tuesday 4th March and Monday 10th March 2025. The purpose of these sessions was to provide potential applicants with an overview of the schemes, their main features, and the steps involved in applying and evaluation. They were guided on how to complete the application form, including the administrative, technical, and financial aspects. Notably, there were around 180 attendees for both online sessions. During the sessions, more than 140 questions were answered both live and through the chat box.
The Project Advisory Unit addressed calls from the public and replied to emails during the time that the Call for Proposals was open.
Applications
Following the deadline for submission of applications on Friday 28th March 2025, 140 applications have been received.
Way forward
The processing of the 140 applications is currently in progress and it is expected that awards will be made as from May 2025.
